Review by Sven Thielmann in Fono Forum 2/2024: Anyone who knows Gisela Horat is either a Swiss jazz insider or, if I may say so, a truffle pig blessed with big ears. The pianist, who lives in Zurich, is one of the quiet ones in the country whose wealth of expression is inversely proportional to her fame. As a result, one is stunned by her solo album, dryly called Vol. 2, on which Gisela Horat makes a Bösendorfer Imperial sing and sound with brilliantly cultivated playing technique. It's marvellous how crystal clear the mighty instrument is in the room - an audiophile masterpiece by Roli Mosimann, who makes even the slightest vibrations and reactions to the often hard-hitting keys audible. Stylistically, this is difficult to grasp because Gisela Horat calmly contrasts flowing melodies of subtle beauty with neo-tonal techniques such as shimmering cascades of sound in the string box, thus evoking immense arcs of tension. Although it occasionally thunders violently, even their freest pieces lack the brute force of free jazz attack. Instead, highly emotional motifs develop organically out of the moment and unfold, a breathtakingly Cartesian effect. Afterwards one is certain: after Irene Schweizer, Gisela Horat is the most impressive Swiss keyboard artist - a sensational discovery
